Time Marches On.. [13 Jul 2005|12:30pm]

emma_delauro
Things were scattered, and cohesive at the same time. Nikki had gone, and I wasn't quite sure why. Shalimar had told me that she wasn't sure she fit with us, and that she needed time to sort of her priorities.

Remy had taken me to be her confidant, which I cherished. She leaned on me when she didn't want to be alone. I comforted her as much as I could, trying to help heal her scars. In the two weeks we'd been together, I found her to be quite the puzzle, so many pieces still missing. I'd help her find all I could.

Brennan and I had ended up wandering around Sanctuary for about an hour before Adam tracked us down to tell us he'd 'finished' with Lexa and that she was gone. I knew she had to be plotting something, but I had no idea as to what. But it was nice to just wander with Brennan, him as much a stranger here as I was. We'd formed our own special little bond, and flirted playfully a lot. He was pretty taken with Shalimar, but he was so fun to tease.

Jesse.. Jesse hadn't been the same since he'd brought Lexa back to Sanctuary. Guarded, shaken, worried.. I tried to break into him a little bit, but no go.

Shalimar and I were fast becoming close friends. We'd had a girls night a few days ago, just her and I since Remy hadn't been in the mood. We talked for hours, and she told me great stories about how she came to be in Mutant X, about her past, and I shared with her too. We had come to be able to speak almost without words. Laughter. That was the major thing we really shared.

Adam was starting to become like a father figure. A leader, always seeming to know the way. I knew now why Shalimar had been so protective. They were a family, and they'd let us in.

All in two weeks. I was amazed at how Adam helped me control my powers. He figured out that I had the ability to control peoples emotions, sometimes forcing them to see things that weren't there. I'd developed a 'blast', and could use it actively, instead of just passively. Things were growing, moving, changing.

The comm ring was amazing. Keyed into my DNA. I could always reach Adam, Shalimar, Brennan, Jesse.. I was never alone.
***

It took awhile for the dreams to start again. I'd learned more about Ashlocke, as I'd asked Adam about him when I had another dream. Dreams.. That was what I didn't believe. Adam told me that that was what they had to be, since Ashlocke was in statis, but things were just too real. He knew my name, he knew things about my past.. I had no idea how he was contacting me, but he was. And something was coming. I just didn't know what.
***

Shalimar and I were in the gym, up on the sparring platform doing Tai Chi. She'd been working with me on it for the past week, and I was slowly learning. Still fumbled, still fell over during some of the more balance oriented movements. Seeing Shalimar in motion had to be one of the most amazing things one can ever see. Grace, strength, poise, power.. All in her tiny, little, muscular body. It would make anyone feel inadequate.

As we worked, I could hear his voice in my skull, pulsating louder and louder until I had to sit down and put my hands over my ears. I groaned, and put my forehead to my knees. Shalimar placed her hand on my shoulder and kneeled next to me. I smiled at her, and said I was okay, just a little tired.

I grabbed my towel and walked down the steps, the cool cement of the stairs sucking the heat from my skin. I went back to my room and disrobed, then turned the shower on, scorchingly hot. I stepped in, gasping at the heat, then letting it run over my face. I put my hands against the wall and closed my eyes and lowered my head into the water.

I felt hands glide over my hips, and then felt him pressing against my back. I screamed, and whipped around to face him. There he was, the light gleaming off his black eyes. I pressed my eyelids closed, and then snapped them open again. He was gone, just as quickly as he'd appeared.

This time I was awake. Not a dream anymore. I grabbed the towel off the rack, wrapped it around myself, and ran off to find Adam.

Two Weeks [13 Jul 2005|01:39am]

shalimarfox
All it took was two weeks and we had completely lost track of Lexa again. Jesse had kept quiet for the most part about just what she was doing in our midst, and I wasn't about to get into another shouting match with him. It wasn't a pleasant feeling knowing that we knew the right thing to say to each other just to get just beneath the skin. When we fought, it was usually not the prettiest thing.

Needless to say that discussion we had was a long time coming. Both of us let go of more than a few frustrations and like always in the end we were much stronger together than we had been apart. It was just how we worked.

Either way Lexa was a thorn in my paw so to speak, and Jesse was tightlipped about the raven haired woman. It was just as well, cause I wasn't in the mood to hear a parade of praise for her anyway. However when Adam escorted her out of Sanctuary I wasn't sure that she would vanish like she had. I kept slight tabs on her, watching Proxy for releases about her, but they were few and far between. Then just like before she was gone.

Nikki and I brought Dani to the underground and placed her in a safe home. I wondered if Nikki wanted to stay with us. Give our friendship a second chance. She didn't think the timing was right though. Perhaps she was right with that. Instead we just exchanged a glance that meant that we would see each other eventually.

Remy was still with us though. She had grown a bit reclusive during that time and mostly spoke only to Emma. It was fine, but we still were looking for the 'right' placement for her. The GSA was after her, and with Lexa unknown we had to really be careful where we took her.

In the meantime though we had more than our fair share of trouble. A few stray mutants getting exposed and a few more placed into the underground, and the fact that our team was now officially four people strong was a good feeling.

Brennan was still a bit cocky, Emma still a bit guarded, and Jesse still a bit wary of whatever Lexa had confided in him.

Me? I was fine. Spent my free time working out, and my down time trying to find Lexa. Most times though I couldn't let Jesse in on my search, and Adam thought I was getting obsessed. The thing is? She came to us, and didn't tell us a thing. Gets a girl more than curious.

Though Adam warned me, that Curiosity killed the cat... I would just have to be a bit more careful was all.

Back in the kitchen. [15 May 2005|04:53pm]

brennanmulwray
Brennan had placed his hands on the keyboard when he felt Emma touching his arm.

"Just because we have the access doesn't give us a right to snoop, you know. We already don't trust them, lets not give them a reason to not trust us."

The words mirrored his thoughts. He decided for a little lightheartedness -
"Not just a pretty face, huh?" he teased, "...thinking ahead."
He turned round, noting Emma's hand.
Smiling, Emma snatched the coffee mug, reminded him that he needed more coffee and headed back to the kitchen.
Brennan closed the panel. The way Emma had reacted revealed a few things - not the least of these the fact that she was willing to take control of situations.
As an empath, did she realise he had been wondering where she stood?

They arrived back in the kitchen to find Remy finishing up her sketch. Emma took care of the coffee and he took the mug from her with a smile.
"You read my mind"

Remy had seen them come in, she spun round with her sketchbook and showed them the result of her morning's work.
"Brennan," she held out the book toward him.

Brennan walked over to Remy's side of the table and put his mug down - what he saw was a pencil version of himself staring back at him from the pages of her sketchbook. He put a hand on her shoulder and picked up the book from the table.
"You did this from memory? Wow." He squeezed her shoulder gently and then let go, reclaiming the mug. He took a sip of the coffee and handed Remy back her sketchbook, smiling that trademark smile.
"Impressive."

"So, where should we go from here? I think I saw an aviary or something of the sort with Jesse yesterday on my speed tour. I know there's at least a few more miles of hallway." Emma had made her way to the other side of the island and sat down.

Brennan returned to the coffee pot for a refill, then leaned against the benchtop, facing both of them.

"We should go downstairs. Take it down a level." Brennan paused. "I guess our time here is limited ... either of you hear about this Underground thing?"

Unwelcome guest? [20 Apr 2005|02:06pm]

adam_kane
Adam's strides were strong and confident as he made his way down the corridor. He was determined to get to the bottom of whatever it was that had brought Lexa back - he did not enjoy being kept in the dark. It was a personality fault that he had [among others...].
Sure enough, as he reached a bend in the hallway, there she was.
And she looked as smug as ever.

"Lexa. " He held out his arm in a gesture indicating a doorway down the hall a little. Lexa had little choice but to comply - the alternative would have cause a scene. To put it bluntly, Adam knew neither of them wanted a scene.

He watched her movements as she went into the room first - the room was one of his secondary labs - there were a few plant related experiments underway.

He shook his head slightly.
"Trying to create rifts among my team will get you nowhere." He let the statement hang in the air as a type of question.

Chillin' by the pond [20 Apr 2005|10:42am]

brennanmulwray
Brennan once again took notice of the [somewhat hidden] security devices in the hallways as he walked. Now and then he cast a sideways glance at Emma. Yesterday he certainly hadn't thought he'd be walking down corridors with a pretty redhead looking for ponds...

"Think they'll send a search party if we get really lost? Because I have no idea where we are right now."

He thought to himself Search party? Hellno, not with all these cameras. They wouldn't need a search party. He was about to reply [using a little less detail] when they rounded a corner and the 'pond room' came into view. Emma ran straight over to the edge, sitting down. Brennan looked around at the room, relieved he wasn't the one to take care of it. Plants... nature.. that wasn't his thing. Five star hotel relaxing in the lounge, now that was another thing entirely. He sat down next to her.

"Its so pretty here," Emma smiled. The surrounds seemed to calm her.

"Yeah. Pretty." Setting his mug down on the edge, Brennan peered into the water, trying to displace the recent events from his mind, that, and the uncertainty of what lay ahead. He wasn't able to leave this place - for starters, he didn't know where this place was. Sure he could physically leave... try and figure out where to head to once on the outside, but for some reason, he didn't want to sneak out like that. Not after Adam had showed such hospitality.

"Any idea what comes next?" He asked, without turning his head, still staring into the water. water... electricity... not a good mix.
He kept that thought to himself.

[14 Apr 2005|01:37am]

I had all this anger building up in me and Emma was right. I didn't want to do something that I regretted, but I knew it was almost too late for that. I had spoken my mind and just walked away. It was pretty easy to do too. Sure I wanted to stay and bitch out Lexa for whatever I could think of, but my head was swimming with too many things to even pin point what I could be mad at her for at the moment. I was pretty sure there was a reason, but I was too overwhelmed.

My feet just kept moving one in front of the other and I felt my jaw tighten. Finally freeing my fists from the clenched balls of anger I shook them out. The warmth cooling in the breeze as my steps quickened. I didn't even know where I was going, I just needed to get away. Away for a moment, to clear my head and get a better grasp of just what was going on here.

Jesse snuck out. He didn't tell anyone and here he was back at home, with Lexa in tow. Had I really been so horrible about Lexa that he didn't trust me with any of it? I thought I had reached some understanding with him on Lexa, I guess I was wrong.

I slowed my steps and heard someone coming up behind me. They were still a bit away, but I wasn't going to make any extra effort to get away from whoever had managed to find me. As they got closer I knew it was Jesse. I could have picked him out from any of them, any time of the day.

He was really the only family I had left and I thought I could trust him, but if he doesn't trust me maybe I was wrong all along. I stopped in the middle of the hall making sure I was calm enough to actually talk to him about it. I let out a long breath and turned to face him.

"Hey."

Unwlecomed guest. [12 Apr 2005|12:36am]

jesse_kilmartin
The ride back to Sanctuary was mostly spent in silence. While Jesse's mind raced with a million unanswered questions, he seemed hesitant to ask anything more of Lexa before they actually arrived and were able to talk with the others. Not that he expected her to give him any answers, anyway. There was something more to her than she was willing to let on. One didn't necessarily need to be a telepath to know that much. Still, if Lexa was willing to explain herself and provide a bit of insight into .. anything at this point, then all that Jesse could do was grant her the courtesy of listening. He didn't want Lexa as an enemy, almost s much as he didn't want to believe that Adam had been keeping anything from either him or Shalimar -- or worse, outright lying to them. Jesse owed Adam more than that, however. He wasn't going to jump to any conclusions. Not until he had the chance to talk with him directly, anyway.

When they finally arrived back at Stormking Mountain, Jesse escorted Lexa into Sanctuary through the entrance to the parking garage. He still wasn't sure whether or not he was doing the right thing by bringing her here, to Mutant X's base of operations .. but if what she had been saying was true? If this top secret organization that she worked for knew so much about them and what they were doing? Then they probably already knew the location of Sanctuary, anyway. Not that it excused the fact that he had gone against his friends -- his only real family. He just couldn't rest easy until he knew, one way or another. If Lexa turned out to be bogus, then fine. He would have been wrong and that would have been the end of it. At least it would have been some sort of closure. Then again, if she turned out to be legit? Jesse wasn't even sure where they would go from there. Time would tell, though. He just hoped that Shal wouldn't be too upset at him for placing any semblance of trust in Lexa -- enough to bring her back here to talk with them all. Somehow though, he knew better than not to expect as much from his friend .. and just about anyone else staying here besides Remy who had the pleasure (or displeasure, as it were) of crossing paths with the brunette woman.

"They should just be finishing up breakfast," Jesse spoke to Lexa as they moved through Sanctuary's interior, making their way toward the kitchen. "Don't be surprised if we're met with some slight .. hostility," he added in warning, although it was pretty safe to assume that Lexa had already been planning for as much. After all, it wasn't like any of them had actually gone out of their way to be super receptive to her or anything that she had to say. Jesse just hoped that she'd be able to prove them all wrong.

Guided Tours Are My New Skill [30 Mar 2005|01:59am]

shalimarfox
I leaned against the wall for a moment watching Remy's reaction to my appearance. Apparantly I actually did need to wear a bell in this place. However the jumpy reaction from Remy could be due to a number of reasons that I was still unaware of, but as long as she trusted Emma I figured she knew to trust me as well. I smiled at the two of them, bonding and building a closer relationship. Wondering if Remy was settling in okay I figured it might be too much coming at her at one time. Instead the offer of breakfast was something they both could focus on.

"A bit jumpy, eh? I've been thinking about a nice, greasy, unhealthy breakfast all morning. Let's go."

I agreed, and after my run and then all the boring research that got me nowhere, I was ready to eat as well. Emma stood and I watched as Remy hesitated a moment. Once a helping hand was extended I actually began to worry about the relationship that they were forming. Adam wanted Emma to join us, to help out. From the looks of it she would be an invaluable asset, however if this bond is too strong she might not want to stay with us. Both would have to go into the underground, and I wasn't sure if that was really a good choice for her, or for us. I shook off the thought, figuring we could deal with it when it happened.

"Lead the way to the food, please."

The smirk returned to my face and I happily led the duo down the corridor to the kitchen. Remy climbed onto one of the stools near the island and Emma joined me ransacking through the cupboards and fridge. I found some eggs and milk, along with some tomatoes, and a few other things.

Holding them up for inspection and approval, I turned to Remy.

"Omelette?" She nodded and Emma and I went to work preparing food. I figured the rest of the group would be milling in sometime soon, and I managed to make sure that there was food for Nikki and Dani. Brennan seemed the coffee type for - well for anytime, and I knew that Jesse and Adam could fend for themselves.

"So Emma, not to pry but she's doing better right?"

Sift through the smoke and lies [26 Mar 2005|01:24pm]

lexa_pierce
Lexa couldn't sleep as she laid in her bed and stared up at the darkened ceiling. Things had gone so wrong the night before, and she couldn't shake the feeling. She had been slow close to gaining Jesse's trust, and she would have if the red head wouldn't have taken off and left her behind. "Bitch..." she muttered as she pushed herself out of bed. She had no idea who she was dealing with, and Lexa couldn't afford to fail on this job. She shook her head as she made her way into the bathroom and flipped on the light. She sighed as the walls became illuminated and stood in front of the sink, her cool blue eyes staring back at her. She really only had one hope left without having to start things all over again. She just hoped he'd be smart enough to take her up on her invitation.

Once she was showered and redressed in her usual dark attire, she sat down in front of her laptop and began to type. She still had a little over an hour until the meeting was supposed to take place, and figured she do a little research in the mean time. The soft tapping sound of keys filled the air and soon a rather stern looking man appeared on the screen before her. This had better be good. Her gaze narrowed as she looked at him, her arms folding across her chest. Have you made any progress? "Not yet," she replied with a bite behind her tone. "I need everything you have on new mutant who's running with Mutant X now. Her name's Emma..." Soon files of background information appeared on the screen next to the graying man who still watched her. "If she is going to interfere... "Then I'll take her out," she interrupted, her eyes locking with his. "I'll contact you when I have something to report." Shutting her laptop, she pushed away and grabbed a jacket. It was almost time.

The cool morning air blew through her dark strands of hair as she made her way down a deserted street. She had given him a specific time and place to meet with her to hear the story that never got told. She pulled her hand from her pocket and soon light began to refract around her and her form seemed to melt away. It wasn't that she didn't trust him to come alone exactly. It was the other two she didn't trust not to tag along, or follow. Her soft features hardened at the thought. Of course she would have to sway the Feral and the red head eventually, but she needed someone on her side first. A light groan slipped past her lips as her stomach turned. Lexa never was one to play nice with others, but she supposed that is what got her in this position in the first place. Shaking the thoughts away, she shifted her gaze down to the entrance of the alley. If he didn't show in ten minutes then it was back to square one.

bad dreams [21 Mar 2005|05:15pm]

remy_kincade
After Shalimar had shown her her room Remy gave a small "thanks" then put her bags on the bed. She took in a breath then began to undress, exhaling slowly as she removed her sneakers and jeans. She left her shirt on then climbed into the bed, sitting indian style.

All she wanted to do was draw, but, in her current quarters she felt...cramped. So, she gathered her sketchbook and pencils then went out into the corridor. She looked around for a moment before choosing to go left. Finally she came to what looked like a living area and she plopped down on one of the modern couches, propping her socked feet up on the coffee table.

In the span of an hour she had finished the drawing she had started when she was with Lexa. It was about two and a half pages long, each panel more goory (?) than the one before. She had also started on a drawing of a man holding an infant, a screaming infant.

Remy had fallen asleep on the couch, one arm across her chest and the other hanging over the floor where her sketch book laid. She cluchted her pencil in the hand that was dangling over the couch as if something bad would happen if she dropped it.

Through the night she had tossed and turned, whimpering on ocassion and mumbling a few words. She thought she had stopped with the nightmares but with all the action and drama in the past day or so everything had resurfaced.

Daylight had come swiftly. Remy was still on the couch sleeping fitfully. She moaned painfully, kicking a leg out over the arm rest before she awoke. Her eyes were wide as she sat up instantly, her breathing rapid.

The pencil fell from her hand, landing on her sketchbook before bouncing off the paper and onto the carpet.

Tears stained her pale cheeks though she quickly wiped them away and stood up and looked around. No one was around as far as she could tell. She sighed and began walking around, looking for Emma or anyone who could help her find some food. Though, she really wanted to find Emma and tell her the nightmares that attacked her in the night.

"Emma? Anyone?" She called.

A New Morning [20 Mar 2005|10:16am]

shalimarfox
Bzzz!Bzzz!Bzzz!

My hand reached around in the dark trying to kill whatever was making an attempt to wake me. I knew it was morning, and that I needed to get up, but honestly? Would a bit more sleep kill me? I grumbled a bit and finally lifted my head off the pillow. Through squinted eyes I glanced at the digital readout on the clock.

06:05:48AM

Okay, so I needed to get up, but after a day like yesterday, you can't blame a girl for trying to catch a few extra winks. I slammed my hand finally on the off button, putting an end to the buzzing. I rubbed my fists against my eyes trying to force myself to alertness. Instead I just ended up with itchy eyes. I slid out of bed and stretched out a bit, before throwing on some sweats and heading for my morning run.

I started out the main hall, running through the events of the day before. Everything seemed to happen so fast. We went out searching for the one girl, ended up picking up another. I didn't trust Lexa, and neither did Adam, but when Adam got that email, he was off, and we were out on another retrieval. This one went smoother, and we ran into another New Mutant, and lost Lexa.

I turned the corner and kept on running. Adam, had gotten another call on the way to where he was headed, and realized he couldn't help, so back he came and not a moment too soon, because there was yet another Mutant out there. Plus Nikki had shown up with Dani. If I didn't know better I would think that someone just let everyone free out of some detention unit somewhere.

Then we head out trying to save Remy and get Brennan to safety. Nikki and I teamed up and Emma helped Jesse. Of course my favorite Mutant showed up yet again, right where we didn't expect her too. However Jesse didn't drag her back to Sanctuary, which I could only assume was for her own protection. It had been one hell of a day, and it ended with Nikki off with Dani, Brennan chatting with Adam, Jesse going of to his room, and me showing Remy and Emma to some rooms for the night.

I turned the corner again and started to loop back around to my room. It had been more than an active night for us. It had been hectic. It had been too long, and now it was over. At least that part was. There was still a lot that we didn't know about everyone that was under our roof at this moment. Even more about those that didn't return with us.

Finally I got back to my room. I flipped on the lights, set out my clothes and showered and dressed. That shower was a long time coming, and it just felt like a fresh start. I was ready for that at least. I had left Emma in a room close to my own, and figured I would check in on her. Make sure she was doing okay, all things considered. Maybe even get a bit of insight as to just what went on for Jesse's retrieval, and run in with Lexa.

There were a few things that I knew not to ask Jesse, and anything starting with Lexa? Top of the list right now. So I would just have to go around the way. I headed down the hall a bit until I came to the door to Emma's temporary quarters. If Adam was right, and she would be a useful member of the team, I was sure she would get something more suitable for her, and not so close to my own room. Now though? It was just a precaution.

I knocked gently on the door, glancing to see if it was still as early as I thought it was, however my run, and the rest of it actually took a good two hours, so eight in the morning isn't that bad for a wake up call.

"Emma? You up yet?"

Taking the High Roads [12 Feb 2005|05:07am]

shalimarfox
I stood there letting him think it over. It wouldn't be very wise going up against two ferals, let alone one feral with a huge lack of sleep. I was cranky and he needed to beware of that. Electric powers or not, if he said no to us, I knew Nikki would have no problem decking him. I would be next in line too.

"... Genomex trucks?"

See that was what I liked to hear. That little bit of panic setting in. The realization that maybe sarcastic comebacks should wait for another day. Nikki's eyes sparked, she sensed it too. Fear. Someone had to have put the fear of the GSA into him, I was curious just who that was. I didn't think he could pull that much information from the brief run in we had when we got Emma. He was good, but no one is that good.

"I think we can leave your gal pal outta this - I'm already on her bad side. So... where is this famous ride of yours?"

At the sound of acceptance on our take the easy way offer Nikki closed the distance between us. She knew we would be heading out, and more in the now time frame than the later. Pressing past a few other patrons she walked up to the two of us.

"You'd know if you were on my bad side. Trust me."

I had to smile, she was still the same Nikki. She brushed between the two of us, when did I get so close to him? I took a second step back and watched her exit the club. I motioned for him to follow and I closed up the group and made sure no one had gotten up after we started to move. Last thing we needed was GSA hanging out waiting for us to leave to ambush us. However it looked all pretty normal. A quick turn on my heel and I was heading out the side door into the alley where just as I said it would be. My car waiting for me. Right in the middle of the tow away zone.

"This would be my ride.. oh and Nikki has shotgun, so cram yourself in that backseat."

I laughed a bit inwardly, and opened my door sliding into the seat. I started the engine and revved it a few times. I flipped on my tracking and saw that the Helix was still on the ground, must be wrapping things up. Sure enough I saw the red blink on my screen go to green and I knew he had started engines too. Pressing a button on the console I opened a channel to Adam.

"Adam we got Brennan, looks like Jesse and Emma are en route as well. See ya in a few, and you better have that drink waiting for me." Then I switched back to standard comms and let Jesse know we were on our way back to Sanctuary.

"Jesse, on my way back, and I bet you I beat you there."

I knew he didn't have time for a race, but I always was a bit competitive with him. It was more of a big sister competitiveness, and it was just for fun. I fastened my seat belt, Nikki did the same and who cares what he does. I threw the car into gear and took off down the back alley. Once we met up with the main road I opened her up. Not much traffic at this time of night, and I wasn't afraid of cops either. This car was set with all sorts of high tech stuff, my favorite? Radar and laser jammers. I could fly past a cop going 120 and they couldn't tag me, which meant even if I did get pulled over, I could us my other assets to get me out of the ticket, or just ask to see the readout. Which they could never show me.

Took a few turns and then I did my magic trick. Set the car to Auto Pilot and tinted up all the windows to solid opacity. It was a simple trick of the glass. Always in constant flux since glass is technically a liquid, all it did was adjust and it was too solid to view a thing through. It was easier when we didn't have the visual cloaking just to let the car drive the rest and me sit back. Nikki was used to it, I was sure Brennan was either impressed, or just confused. Either way he had no clue where he was going, and I was just fine to rest until the engines stopped. The car turned a few times along the way, and soon I heard the telltale sound of tires turning on reinforced steel floors.

The engine stopped, the windows went back to their normal state and I opened my door standing out of my seat I stretched, arms straight up in the air arching my back just to work out any kinks. Then I saw Nikki letting Brennan out of the backseat. I smirked as I could tell she wanted to hit him or something for giving us a hard time back there. I was too tired to care. All we had to do now was find Adam and maybe I could finally get some rest.

Nikki and I walked back to the lab, because no doubt Adam would be waiting for us there ready to scan Remy and Brennan, checking their DNA for oddities or problems. Brennan kept up, he got distracted every so often but managed to keep up with the non-speaking tour. The doors to the lab slid open and there was Adam waiting for us with a smile.

"Hey Adam. This is Brennan. Coffee drinker, and pain in my ass. I think Nikki would agree on that one too."

I tossed her a sideways grin and slumped into a chair along the sidelines. I think I was at that point where I was too tired to be tired anymore. Second, third fourth, seventh wind whatever it was I was sure I would be sitting here a bit more listening to something important.

"So Jesse tell you Lexa was on the trail of Remy too? Makes one wonder just how she does it right? Manages to be just where we are heading?"

Saves the day. [08 Feb 2005|07:01pm]

Once having situated both Emma and himself within the Helix, Jesse prepared to depart from Sanctuary in order to retrieve the latest New Mutant that Adam had confirmed was being targeted by Genomex. The situation must have been pretty serious for Adam to even consider the option of utilizing Emma as an ally in the field so soon after escaping her own attack at the hands of the GSA. She had no combat training as far as her dossier was concerned, and while her mutant ability made his own pale in comparison, Jesse wasn't even sure that Emma had anymore control over it than he had over his own power when first finding out that he was a New Mutant.

With all of that in mind, it came as no surprise when Emma had certain doubts about helping out in the field. He couldn't exactly blame her, either -- she had just been attacked by a GS agent, learned that she was a New Mutant, and found out that the only way for her to truly be safe again was by going into the Mutant Underground and abandoning the life that she knew in order to take on a completely new identity. It was a bit much for anyone to take in. Now, with the very real possibility that they could run into opposition from Genomex again, they were asking her to throw herself back out there? It was a wonder she remained as composed as she did. After Adam talked with her though, she seemed a bit more confident of her own abilities. It was a good thing, too. As much as Jesse was certain of his own attributes in the field, if he were to run into Genomex while trying to secure this Remy Kincade girl without someone to back him up, then it was safe to say that all bets were off.

A prolonged silence seemed to accompany the short trip back into the city. It was no secret that Emma was nervous. It was probably the reason she hadn't said but two words to him since they left the safety that Sanctuary provided. Glancing over at her sitting beside him, Jesse couldn't help but to feel badly for putting her back into this position. Sure, it was Adam's request, but Emma was here to help him out. The fact that she was willing to put herself out there, while knowing that those GS agents would be looking for her too? It meant a lot more to him than she probably realized. Then again, given Emma's telempathic tendencies, she probably already knew how he was feeling.

"We're here," He broke the silence, after having put them down on the rooftop of some apartment building. According to Adam's file, this was Remy Kincade's last known address. Unbuckling himself from his seat, Jesse, once again glanced over in Emma's direction. "You ready?" One didn't have to be a telempath to sense the mixed emotion Emma was radiating from every fiber of her being. Suddenly, that pang of guilt? Whatever it was, it had manifested within Jesse once again. "You don't have to do this, you know," He assured her, just in case she was having second thoughts. Either way, he needed to get out there to find this girl before it was too late.

Coffee never looked so good. [09 Feb 2005|11:27am]

brennanmulwray
The Proxy Blue broadcase played in the background as Brennan slid into a booth at the very back of the coffee place. His coffee was brought to him and he took this occaision to immediately order a second cup.

...unidentified male throwing electricity from his fingertips...

Brennan chuckled at that, but the light humour was immediately replaced by more sinister feelings - 15 minutes of fame was well and good, mutants, though, did not need this kind of exposure. Not with the ever present risk of being taken in by... those people in suits.

Suits... which only served to bring his mind back to this Genomex place that had "requested his services". The second offer was very tempting, in the interim, however, he'd done a little digging of his own... finding that Genomex was shadier than he first thought. There was definitely a bigger picture - he got the feeling that it was one he didn't want to be associated with. Brennan's mind was made up -there would be no deal. The pricey sum offered by Genomex did not correlate with the job required to be done. That always set off alarm bells, and this time, he wasn't ignoring them.

He finished the first coffee as the second one arrived.

Time to Cross Paths [03 Feb 2005|06:38am]

I sighed, wondering how this would all turnout. Was this going to end up being the first step towards a renewed friendship with Nikki? Was this going to work out as well as I had hoped it would? Or would this just end up another failed attempt at trying to maintain a balance between two very different feral women. I got to the first set of door and thought how it had only been an hour or so since I last saw her. Had she grown up so much in the past that she would even want to help? Let alone side by side with me?

I suppose there is not much time to sort it all out, it is more or less a yes or a no. I keyed in my access code, but this time didn't opt to lock it up behind me. I wouldn't make much of a difference anyway I would either be walking out alone locking it back up or walking out with Nikki.

I moved down the hall back into the makeshift living quarters. She was resting beside Dani, and I didn't want to startle her. Luckily Nikki sensed my entrance and I stood there watching her eyes flutter open. I mouthed 'Hey' to her and motioned for her to join me a bit away from Dani so I could explain the situation. Slowly she freed herself from beside Dani and lightly padded over towards me.

Tilting her head a bit as she approached I was sure she was wondering what was going on.

"Hey, I know it is late.. trust me I am the first person to tell you this day doesn't seem to end, but there is a problem. Right now there are two mutants that are out there both been reported on Proxy. One is a female Remy, and the other is a male, Brennan. I had the pleasure of running... well being thrown into Brennan earlier tonight. Both of them are now targets for Genomex. Remy is already being tracked. Adam wants us to go retrieve them, but we can't go it alone. I am going to get Brennan, I want you to come with me to help out."

I paused for a moment trying to figure out what her reaction was going to be, then again I should know better than to try to guess what a feral is thinking.

"Look, you don't have to.. it is your choice. I just thought you might like a bit of fun. It could be like the old days. What do you say?"

Adam stared at the empty glass on his desk, taking a moment to muse that water has many interesting qualitites.
His reverie was interrupted by a series of trigger words emanating from Proxy Blue.

...strange phenomena …unidentified woman …unidentified male …electricity …similar reports …

Getting up, he switched off the broadcast and focused his attention. The unidentified male in question was undoubtably the mutant who helped Shalimar …and the window shattering girl the latest Genomex target.

He consulted his database and pulled up a name: Remy Kincade – Elemental sonic. He would need to find both Brennan and Remy before Genomex. The day was not over yet – it had been a trying day and show no promise of letting up.
Adam rubbed his temples as he considered the possibilities, there were a few courses of action he could take, but the best one would be to make use of the [sudden] availability of new mutants.
Two teams sent out after two mutants.

He tapped the commlink-

“Shal? Jesse? I need you guys in my office…”

Old Friends [29 Jan 2005|02:38pm]

Jesse was in a rough spot, and Emma tossing that apology out there was enough to even put me through a loop. I figured it was best if Jesse talked to her, but I wasn't even sure if he was ready for that. All that he had been through in the past few days would have been enough to make me put a lot of doubt into myself. I was just glad that Jesse wasn't letting it get to him.

"No, you should go, I can talk to Emma, I'm a big boy now."

I let a smirk fall across my lips as I watched him walk out of his room. Smart ass. I crossed my arms and tried to take in a deep breath. I was about to go find Nikki, and I knew things weren't really on the best of terms between us. Emma in contrast had been an easy task, this one? I was not looking forward to.

I walked out of Jesse's room and glanced down the hall. They were talking at the bottom of the stairs, that was at least something. I hoped I would have at least some luck with Nikki. It wasn't going to be easy, I am sure we left a lot of things unsaid. However the thought that she was out there, doing some good left me a bit more at ease.

I walked to the hall towards where Adam had shown her on the monitors. Of course I didn't need a map, I could sense her.. smell her even. She was close. I found the hallway and keyed in my access code. Adam had locked them in, but I wasn't about to just talk to her through the comms. If she had anything to say to me, I was going to let her say it to my face. I walked through the glass door and turned to the key pad on the opposite side, punching in my code once again, locking me inside with her now.

There was no turning back now. I walked down the hall and into the room where Nikki was sitting beside the young girl, watching over her as she slept. It was a side of Nikki I hadn't seen before. I wondered how much of Nikki had changed in this time apart. From the looks of things a lot.

"So, it's been a while Nikki. Just dropping by, or planning on staying for dinner?"

Making amends. [28 Jan 2005|09:50pm]

jesse_kilmartin
After the small exchange with Shalimar outside of his room, Jesse headed down the hallway in the direction that Emma had retreated. Shal had done her best to cheer him up, which actually seemed to work despite his volatile emotional state at the time. Emma's sudden apology was something that he hadn't been expecting, which left him at a loss for words after their latest encounter. Still, it didn't mean that he was above accepting -- even understanding why she reacted the way that she did. In fact, he probably should have expected as much from her. She had hurt him with her choice of words, sure, but Jesse had to consider Emma's situation, too. Here she was in a strange place, surrounded by strange people. What's more? She was completely in denial about being a mutant. The fact that she had Genomex after her couldn't exactly be a comforting thought, either. All in all, she seemed pretty justified in reacting the way that she did. Thinking it over now only made him feel silly for taking such a reaction to heart.

As he walked through the hallways, he found his thoughts turning once again to the enigma that was Lexa. It seemed so strange to him that she would swoop in from out of nowhere, save both Shalimar and himself, only to up and leave again at the first chance that she recieved. What was she at playing, anyway? According to Adam, the results of her bio read-out indicated that she had already been recieving treatments in order to stabalize her mutation. From what Jesse had seen of the way Lexa seemed able to manipulate light, and what little she had actually revealed to any of them, Lexa was a Chromatic. It was no secret that Molecular Chromatics possessed highly unstable DNA. Whoever had been treating Lexa up until now must have known that much. Problem was that the only other facility aside from Sanctuary that any of them knew to be equipped enough to treat New Mutant DNA was Genomex. That didn't make any sense, though. Why would she have helped them to fight off a GS agent if she was working for the same organization? Lexa could have been attempting to gain their trust so that she could infiltrate Sanctuary, or to get to Adam's connections to the Mutant Underground .. but that didn't add up, either. If that had been Lexa's goal, what caused her to leave again, right when she was presented with another opportunity to gain Mutant X's trust?

Jesse's thoughts were interrupted as the hallway let out into the main room, where he spotted Emma sitting near the bottom of the staircase. He hesitated a good distance away from her, slowing his steps to a much less threatening pace as to not alarm her. She looked up from the wall across the way, which seemed to be the focus of her attention up until she had become aware of Jesse's presence. As their eyes met, Jesse managed a slight smile. He wanted to make sure that she felt welcome here, but more than that? He didn't want her feeling badly for what she'd said to him back in the lab. Emma had already taken the initiative and apologized. Jesse understood where she was coming from, so it didn't take much more than that for him to give her another chance. Right now, Emma's biggest issue was undoubtedly coming to grips with what she was -- something that Jesse could easily relate to. Moving closer to the staircase that Emma was currently seated upon, he leaned forward to rest his arms on the adjacent handrail.

"At least you can take comfort in knowing that you're not the only freak out there," Jesse said, once again offering that smile of his, as if to tell her that it would be all right while at the same time making light of the unpleasant situation that had arisen between them. He was willing to put it past him if she was, as could be indicated by his attempted joke on the matter.

Time to Run [25 Jan 2005|10:23pm]

remy_kincade
Remy nearly tripped as she was going down the steps of her apartment building from going so fast. She caught herself using the banister, sliding her hand along the rail as she hurried. In the lobby she looked to her right and saw the Proxy Blue broadcast. Her eyes went wide slightly as she was mentioned. Well, no one except Genomex knew it was her, but it still made her worry. She chewed on her lower lip then shifted the duffel bag she had onto her other shoulder.

Her eyes looked all around as she made her way outside onto the streets once again. Would Genomex try to come and take her a second time tonight? Doubtful, but still likely.

Remy's dark locks were let loose from their pony tail prison, fluttering slightly as a soft breeze picked up. Her sneakers made tiny "plop" sounds with each hurried step she took. Once she got to the train station she would be alright, she told herself. She then wondered if Arizona was nice this time of the year. Or maybe Florida. Yeah...yeah, Florida sounded nice.

She pushed through the crowd of people walking the opposite direction on the sidewalk. Many were chattering about what they were to do for the night, others were discussing the day's labor. Remy didn't care too much for the people's chatter. All she wanted was to get away before Genomex got her. She didn't want to be their prisoner...she didn't want to end up like her real parents.

Call me paranoid, but I think the paranoid will inherit the Earth. [25 Jan 2005|01:52am]

proxy_blue
I'm on a neverending search for the truth. You may think I'm a scam, a fraud, a tabloid -- but I know there's something out there. And it's everything but good.

Recent disturbances near a local coffee shop downtown have been all over the news today. I'll spare you the boring details (most of them, anyway), and get right to the specifics -- most eyewitnesses reported a series of strange phenomena, ranging from an unidentified woman dropping fifteen stories and landing on her feet, to another unidentified male throwing electricity from his fingertips. There was even one official report made of a man hit by a speeding car. What's so strange about that, you ask? How about the fact that the car was completely demolished, while the man walked away from the scene apparently unharmed.

Similar reports have also been made in the past few days: a girl's scream shatters all of the windows within a three-block radius -- a young man bursts into flames, only to suffer no visible burning or injury. What I want to know is: who are these people, and how is it that they manage to remain exceptions to the rules of our universe?

As always, any information is rewarded.

Proxy Blue out.
